Fairhope entertainment district vote postponed until next council meeting

Baldwin County

FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Fairhope City Council decided to table the vote to establish a downtown entertainment district until the next meeting.

The council discussed whether to allow people to carry drinks on the streets of downtown. The same motion in January of this year failed in a 2-2 vote.

If it passes this time, the move would allow patrons to leave bars and restaurants with an open container during certain city events. The cups would be clearly labeled, and they would be shatterproof.

Most people who spoke during the public comment portion of the meeting opposed the ordinance.

City council members wanted to see further clarity on the ordinance before they made any official decision.

According to the city’s website, the council’s next meeting is set for Dec. 20.
