FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department in Illinois has identified the couple from Baldwin County who survived a plane crash on Tuesday afternoon.

Michael Stodard was flying the single-engine Piper that crashed in Waterloo, near St. Louis. His wife, Angel, and their grandson were also on board.

Stodard and his wife were alert and talking to first responders at the crash site. Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. The grandson was checked out but did not appear to have any serious injuries.

The plane took off from Brookley Field in Mobile Tuesday morning.

The CBS station in St. Louis reported the plane suffered a malfunction that caused oil to cover the windshield moments before the crash.

The FAA is investigating.
