LOXLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — An inmate who escaped from jail in Mississippi is now in custody in Baldwin County.
Billy Hinton escaped from the Green County Jail on Saturday.
On Sunday, U.S. Marshals got word that Hinton was staying at a home in Loxley. Deputies spotted him and chased him into some woods near I-10. Tracking dogs were brought in, but investigators say Hinton stole a car and got away.
Deputies say they talked to Hinton on the phone and he agreed to surrender. However, they say he changed his mind on his way to meet them.
U.S. Marshals later saw Hinton on County Road 9 in the Marlow area and started chasing him. They say Hinton crashed into a tree and was arrested trying to run away.
Hinton is charged with receiving stolen property, attempting to elude, assault and reckless endangerment.
Hinton’s wife, Delenna Hathcock of Summerdale, was also arrested and charged with hindering prosecution and hindering the apprehension of an escapee.
