FOLEY, Ala (WKRG) — A Baldwin County woman was back behind bars on additional charges in connection with a head-on crash last Summer in Foley that took the life of a mother-to-be and her unborn child. Debra Estep was booked back into the Baldwin County Jail Friday morning.
Originally charged with manslaughter in the death of Josie Jones, a grand jury has now returned two indictments against Debra Estep, an additional manslaughter charge for the death of Jones’ unborn daughter and an assault charge.
Last August, a head-on collision on the Foley Beach Express near County Road 20 that killed 20-year-old Jones and her unborn baby and injuring her fiance.
Investigators say 58-year-old Debra Estep was driving the wrong way and drunk when she slammed into the car. Her blood alcohol tested at .251 more than three times the legal limit. “She took two lives and it was intent,” said Melissa Jones, Josie’s Mom. “She chose to get behind the wheel and drive drunk.”
A grand jury review of the case and now Estep faces additional charges, manslaughter in the death of the infant and assault charges for injuries suffered by Jones’ fiance Alize Marshall.
Originally jailed last summer, Estep was released on 75 thousand dollars bond after spending two and a half months in the county jail. Her bond is now set at 85 thousand dollars on the two new charges. She is expected in court Monday. Melissa Jones says this is what they wanted, for Estep to be held accountable for the death of Josie’s baby girl Amorah.
Estep later bonded out at 5pm Friday.
