Daphne woman arrested for stealing money from her Mardi Gras organization

Baldwin County

DAPHNE, Ala. (WKRG) — A woman in charge of managing money for her Mardi Gras association has been arrested for stealing funds from the society.

Tara Strada was arrested and booked into the Baldwin County Jail Tuesday. The sheriff’s office says she was formerly the treasurer for Apollo’s Mystic Ladies, a group based in Daphne. She served as treasurer until the group started noticing “discrepancies” a few months ago, and they removed her from the post, according to investigators with the sheriff’s office.

Apollo’s Mystic Ladies told police roughly $60,000 had gone missing from their business account over the past year.

Strada was arrest for Theft Of Property First Degree, which means she’s accused of stealing an amount of money greater that $2,500. Authorities interviewed her at her home Tuesday, and say she confessed to the theft.

She was released from jail later Tuesday.
