BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WKRG) — Kirk Jay from Bay Minette placed 3rd in the singing competition ‘The Voice’.
His hometown has been rallying around him, hosting watch parties of the show for weeks.
At Tuesday night’s watch party for the finale, the crowd went wild when it was announced Jay got 3rd place. They immediately began chanting his name.
Barbara Brown, who has taught Jay since he was a kid, said it was an honor to watch him grow on stage. But what’s she most proud of, is how humble he remained throughout the entire process.
“He always had time for his hometown,” she said. “He always had time for the children.”
Jay’s mother Kimberly is in Los Angeles this week to watch the finale show live.
“I’d just like to thank everyone for their love and support,” she told News 5 during a Facebook video chat. “We’re not going to forget y’all and we love y’all very much.”
