BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WKRG) — A young mother is dead, her husband in critical condition after what law enforcement is calling a murder-attempted suicide in Bay Minette.
It started with a 911 call just before eleven o’clock Wednesday night. When deputies answered that call for help they found two people shot. One of them dead.
Crime scene tape surrounds the little brick home on Eastwood Drive hours after a 911 call alerting first responders of a shooting. “Both a male and female were found in a bed. The female was deceased and the male at that time had an obvious gunshot wound to the head but alive,” says Baldwin County Sheriff Hoss Mack.
29-year-old Krystal Rose Hancock was dead. Her husband 39-year-old Ben Allen critically wounded.
“It’s tough. It’s just tough on me right now.” Mt. Vernon Police Chief Byron Reynolds hired Hancock as a dispatcher just a few weeks ago. “She’s been with us for a month and a half now. A good worker, always on time, always came in with a smile on her face.”
Tuesday night there may have been a sign of trouble at home. “Her husband, he came by to bring her some food they got into a little verbal dispute. She notified my guys, my guys told him he had to leave and he left without incident,” says Reynolds.
24 hours later she was dead and her husband critically wounded with a gunshot blast to the head. “It does not appear any third party is involved,” says Mack. “Nobody else was in the residence when this happened and as I said, it appears Mr. Allen appears to be both a suspect and victim of an attempted suicide.”
Allen has a history of domestic violence arrests. As of Thursday night, he remains in critical condition at University Hospital in Mobile.
