BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WKRG) — City officials and police officers in Bay Minette are cracking down on illegal dumping after continually seeing piles of trash on the side of the road.
And we’re not just talking about paper and plastic.
Any time we’re dealing with fluids from a car, antifreeze, motor oil, battery acids, it poses not only just an environmental threat but it’s also a public safety issue,” said Sgt. Robert Gates.
The police department is taking this seriously. They’re prepared to issue fines from $250-$500, and in extreme cases, put violators behind bars.
“We’re hoping the public will recognize a vehicle, a tag, a person that’s doing these things,” said Gates.
Gates says the city has several legal options for trash disposal.
If you spot violators, you’re asked to call Bay Minette police at (251) 580-2559 or email email@example.com. You can remain anonymous.
