Christopher Lugo

Christopher Lugo is an award winning journalist, focusing mainly on Northwest Florida for WKRG News 5.

A native of Andalusia, Alabama, Lugo attended Auburn University in Montgomery and Troy University before earning his associate’s degree at LBW Community College in Andalusia. Seeking a change of pace from small town Alabama, Lugo decided to finish his bachelor’s degree in Hartford, Connecticut at the University of Hartford.

Coming back to his hometown in 2017, Lugo knew he wanted to write, so he stumbled into the Andalusia Star-News asking for a job. Within three years, he worked his way up to managing editor of the paper, leading the newsroom, covering everything from local government to sports.

After meeting his wife, Lugo made the move to Franklin, North Carolina, where he was editor of The HIghlander, in Highlands, North Carolina. While at The Highlander, Lugo won several N.C. Press Association Awards for his coverage of local government, usage of digital media and editorials.

Now, in his position as Digital Reporter for WKRG News 5, Lugo is excited to make connections and tell the stories of Northwest Florida.

When not working, you can find Lugo playing tennis, at the beach or spending time with his wife and three dogs.

Feel free to keep up with Lugo on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
