BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - A prosecutor in Belgium says the man
who's accused in a deadly stabbing rampage at a day care center is
also believed to have killed an elderly woman earlier this month.
And, the prosecutor says the man was carrying plans for an
attack on two more nurseries. A defense lawyer says his 20-year-old
client has admitted to killing two babies and a nursery attendant
at a Belgian day care center last week.
However lawyer Jaak Haentjens says his client, Kim De Gelder, denies
involvement in any other murders.
Haentjens told a news conference Tuesday that De Gelder
understands he did something "inhuman."
Prosceutors argue that there are "very clear indications of links" between
the day care center attack and the stabibng death this month of a
73-year-old woman who lived nearby. Investigators haven't been able
to find a motive for that attack.
Friday's day care attack took the lives of two babies and a
caregiver. The attacker, a man armed with a knife, seriously
wounded 12 other people, including 10 children. Witnesses say he
calmly rode his bicycle away from the scene.
The suspect was arrested at a nearby supermarket. He's charged
with three counts of murder and 12 counts of attempted murder.
Authorities say the suspect is refusing to cooperate with the
investigation.
