One of the most popular makers of weather radios, Oregon Scientific, is recalling 60,000 of them.
The four models and model numbers are:
All Hazards Portable Weather Alert Radio WR103NX
Portable Public Alert Radio WR108
Public Alert Weather Station WRB308
John Deere Public Alert Weather Station WRB308J
Gary Beeler from the National Weather Service encourages everyone to have a weather radio. He says, "The more you know about what's going on weather wise, the safer you're going to be."
The reason for the recall is that the four models are not receiving the vital information sent out from the National Weather Service.
If you have one of the four models, that doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't work. You can test it every Wednesday when the National Weather Service sends out their weekly test.
Beeler explains the times of the testing; "Mobile is unique, we test every Wednesday between 9 and 10 in the morning, and then for people who were working during the daytime, we do it from 6 and 8 in the evening."
So if you get the test message, your radio is OK.
Oregon Scientific will gladly trade your recalled weather radio in for a new one. You can call them Monday-Friday, between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. CST, at 1.800.203.4921.
