Dr. Donald Williamson, state health officer, says during extreme heat, the public should be on watch for heat-related illnesses and take steps to keep cool. “Take frequent breaks in an air-conditioned area during the hottest period of the day. Drink more fluids, but avoid beverages containing alcohol or caffeine”, says Williamson.
Heat-related deaths have been reported in Autauga, Chilton, Coffee, Elmore, Henry, Montgomery and Morgan counties.
