WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Faced with rising fuel costs, theNational Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is canceling or
cutting back on voyages aimed at studying climate change and ocean
ecosystems.
NOAA has scrapped at least four trips nationwide and is
shortening others.
An internal NOAA e-mail obtained by The Associated Press warned
of an "approximate" $1.7 million dollar budget shortfall due to
fuel costs, and noted the agency has proposed cutting 231 ocean
research days for the year.
The agency says the numbers and cuts are still preliminary as it
works to keep most of its programs intact. But fuel costs will
certainly reduce the hours federal researchers can spend at sea.
NOAA has scrapped at least two research trips in the Gulf of
Mexico and two more in Alaska.

HOW about them using oars to go on their ocean voyages to study the ocean. Now that would help the climate and really reduce pollution. When it gets down to affecting them it’s a whole nother story. A little physical exertion and sweat and I bet they would be like rats leaving a sinking research ship. Just think of all the savings by not using those big engines and generators for air conditioning, probably have to change that to Sweaty rats leaving a sinking reseach ship.
