MOBILE, Alabama - Take Vince Formica. He shares a birthday with the storm. He says he ended up celebrating his 23rd birthday in a church with his wife.“We went to our church that night and we thought we'd be safer and we huddled under the pews and something came over the radio saying the absolute worst place to be was in a church. The wind bowed the windows in and out all night. Someone took an apple and cored it out put a candle in it and they sang happy birthday, for that I was grateful.”
Judy Serda survived the storm with her children. She says she just had a new baby when the storm hit.
“We were all huddled on our first floor and we could hear just loudness just very loud stuff going on, almost like the roof coming off, and we tried to look outside, you couldn't even see outside it was so bad.”
Judy says, after the storm, she had to use the gas grill to heat her baby’s bottle. She says it was tough living without power for so long. If you haven’t seen my Frederic retrospective, you can check it out here.
