Local Weather Damage

Florida Alabama Active weather caused flooding and wind damage across our area.

Our fall weather has been relatively cool and quiet, but today got rough.
Dennis Parker of Brewton says, "I've lived here in brewton for 71 years and I've never seen any water fall like it did this morning."
That flash flooding caused damage at a local law office.
Jim Hart says, the rain caused significant damage to his office, but he is use to flooding.
"I do have Flood Insurance luckily cause this place is prone to flooding. Sometimes the creek here will back up and flood."

In Baldwin County, the highway department shut down CR 87 near Elsanor because water from Blackwater River flooded the road.

In Santa Rosa County, wind damage near Allentown had some neighbors thinking a tornado passed by.
Vernon Tedder is a Senior Ag Tech at West Florida Research Center just north of Milton.
"Somewhere around 7:30 or 8 o'clock, we had a tornado touch down at the research center in Allentown. And it threw some stuff around and tore our gas house and all of our gas pumps and blew them apart. It probably lasted more than 30 seconds."
He says the damage from the gas house will cost close to 45,000 dollars.

The National Weather Service says high wind from a thunderstorm was to blame for the damage, not a tornado. They also said a wind gust of 58 mph was reported near Jay, Florida at 7:30 a.m.
