Lightning is to blame for a house fire in Mobile's Springhill area.

Fire fighters responded to Kingswood Drive West just before 2pm Sunday, after a homeowner noticed smoke coming from his air conditioning unit.

Steve Huffman, a spokesman for the Mobile Fire Department, tells News 5 lightning struck a copper vent pipe on the roof of the two story house.

The family was home when the fire started, but everyone made it out safely.

Firefighters on the scene say there's about $16,000 worth of damage.
