News 5 has new information about a lightning fatality in Monroe County. The National Weather Service first reported the incident Tuesday afternoon. Monroe County Coroner Robert Malone tells News 5 the man was killed on Pryor Road, just off River Ridge Road near Franklin. Malone identifies the victim as Johnny Montgomery from Beatrice. Malone says Montgomery worked for a logging company and was sitting beside the base of a tree when lightning struck. Malone says the lightning split the tree and then traveled into Montgomery's body. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
