The cautions were out for another rough stretch of
hurricanes this year, but the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season is
winding down with a whimper.
Friday is the official end of the season. As long as no more
storms develop before then, there will have been just one
hurricane, Humberto, which struck the U.S. during the
June-to-November period. Humberto is blamed for one death and 30
million dollars in damage.
In all, there were five hurricanes this season. That's a far cry
from the seven to 10 hurricanes forecast.
Forecasters and emergency managers are actually concerned. They
say when there's an easy hurricane season, people tend to get
complacent and forego the preparations in future years.
Two major hurricanes did form this year, they just missed the
U.S., hitting Mexico and Central America.
