UNDATED, Ala. (AP) - The Midwest is coated in ice, but people inAlabama are playing golf and shopping for Christmas trees in
shorts.
Unseasonably warm weather brought another day of record
temperatures to Alabama yesterday even though the nation's
midsection was shivering through an ice storm that was blamed for
at least two dozen deaths.
High temperatures in Alabama typically range from the low to
upper 60s this time of year, but the mercury was at or near 80
degrees in several cities.
National Weather Service reports said cities from Mobile to
Huntsville broke temperature records dating back about a
half-century, with Montgomery.
Forecasters say cooler weather is on the way and there's a good
chance of rain statewide beginning today. But it will still be
abnormally dry. Nearly half of the state remains in the most severe
category of drought.
