Have you received your power bill yet? It may end up bearing the brunt of this blistering heat if you're keeping your air conditioner turned up.
Alabama Power officials say if you put your thermostat up it could save you a big bill.

By turning your thermostat to at least 78 degrees and using a ceiling fan, you can conserve energy while cutting back on your power bill.
Keep blinds closed to prevent more heat from coming in and limit use of large appliances to the morning or evening.

"What we're trying to do is eliminate the amount of heat coming into the house that the air conditioner is going to have to remove,"Said Bernie Fogarty for Alabama Power. Installing insulation and using flourescent light bulbs can also help reduce energy consumption.

One of the easiest ways to save energy this summer is to turn off lights that are not in use. You can get more tips on energy conservation from Alabama Power.

No matter what we do to conserve, “they” are one step ahead of us and then issue phamplets on how to conserve energy whilst they are thinking up ways to charge more.

I wish Alabama Power would take their dern ads off tv - how much does that cost us?  They are the only Power company in town.

GOOD MORNING CLAYCITY! Yea,I’ve tried a lot of things to help reduce the power bill but the power company always catches up with you one way or another.I have about three remote controlled power receptacle’s on a few walls so I can turn all power off on them at night,A solar hot water heater that did really make a difference at the start about 15 or 20 years ago,a few solar panels but not nearly enough,But slowly and surely I’m drifting back to about what my neighbors pay without all the gardets to save power, and I changed my thermostat out to a newer programmable one and leave it set at 78,still I’m losing ground. One way or another they aren’t gonna let you get ahead UNLESS- you get completely independant for power.I hear rumors they are already working on ways to stop you from producing your own power without paying a tax to them through the state.Sounds like they are about to get us cornered, doesn’t it?

morning carl. seeems like we forgtot how to conserve energy, and we have a lot of things that constanstly drain we didint used to have, tv’s computers, etc. did we forget to turn off light bulbs? you would think so around my house. a LOT of months my bill at the house is cheaper than my bill at the farm, but i live very frugally there with power use. most of my bill there is mercury lights.

I’ve used ceiling fans and fluorescent bulbs for years and they do help a bit,but they always jack up the power rates to compensate for less use,and when they get those smart meters installed you’re really gonna see your power bill jump. The CAP and TRADE bill and smart meters are going to really hit everyone in the pocket book. One you can do something about locally,THE PSC and the other through your congressmen and senators. And then there’s the TVA who we are subsidizing so the people up there can have lower power bills while we get handed the bill.

If you want to maximize your energy savings with ceiling fans, read this article about a new Midway Eco Ceiling Fan that is over 300% more efficient than other fans.

i posted you guys about this months ago, but you didn’t even look at it. the obamanation will have us a third world counrty before we can get him out.

This CAP and TRADE thing is going to increase our hydro bills tremendously.  Call, write, email your Congressman!

Call your CONGRESSMAN, If CAP and TRADE goes in then if you electric bill is $120.00 like mine the it will go up to $375.00 YES you figure it out $3000.00 divid by 12 Call your congressman and say JUST SAY NO. Remember we make less than $250.,000 BUT we will get NAILED.

speaking of Power company making a mistake. They made a mistake once on my reading which brought my bill from roughly $185 to over $300. I simply called them with the reading I obtained and they gladly adjusted the amount with out any problems.
Then I thought about it and figured why wouldn’t they fix it without any problems. If you are lying to them and gave them a lower reading then they would just make it up the next month so really they wouldn’t be out any money.

I have several renters and I keep the electric bills in my name.  Last month one of my renters electric bill was $222 for the previous month.  His electric bill never gets above $85-90 in the summer.  We went to the power company with the reading we took and they admitted they had made an error and sent someone out to get a correct reading.  Either the meter reader inadvertently wrote down the wrong thing or the data entry person entered the wrong meter reading.

Sometimes it is a mistake by the Power company.  Budgeting with the power company, I doubt we would have caught the error so quickly.  Budgeting service is not designed to save anyone money, it is just for your budgeting purposes.
