WHITE HOUSE (AP) - President Bush says the government will stepin to help Southern states pummeled by a series of tornadoes.
The president says he has called governors of Alabama, Arkansas,
Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee and assured them the
administration is ready to help and to deal with any emergency
requests.
He says "prayers can help and so can the government."
At least 48 people in the South were killed in the storms, which
ripped apart warehouses, a university's dorm buildings and a
shopping mall. Crews are still searching for more victims.
