Alabama Breaks Tornado Record

Tornado Record  The 13 tornadoes that have hit Alabama so far this month set a new record for tornadoes in February. The previous record was set in 1990.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Alabama has broken an 18-year-old state
record for most tornadoes in February, according to a weather
service database.
The 13 tornadoes that hit Alabama in the first 17 days of this
month beat out the 11 in February 1990, The Birmingham News
reported. According to a National Weather Service report, six
tornadoes hit parts of Alabama Sunday, injuring 62 people. Seven
tornadoes hit north Alabama on February 6th, killing five people.
Sunday's tornadoes struck Autauga, Chilton, Dallas, Pike,
Elmore, Russell, Lowndes and Barbour counties.
Storm experts continued today to assess damagae from Sunday's
storms. They were expected to be in Coosa, Clay, Tallapoosa and
Randolph counties, as well as other parts of Barbour County and
maybe northern Lowndes County.
According to meteorologist Scott Unger, the threat of tornadoes
will increase in the coming weeks. He said tornadoes could become
more frequent as spring approaches.
