Cloud Tornado? By: Jeff Amerson

Cloud Tornado?

sunset in early December after raining all day. Could you tell me what that is in the picture?

Thanks
Jeff Amerson

EDITOR'S RESPONSE: This is a deck of altocumulus clouds being illuminated from beneath. On the right side you see a skinny airplane condensation trail. on the left side you see clouds dissapating (falling as ice crystals) and working their way out in a circle. The nickname is punch hole cloud or holepunch cloud.
