Lenticular Clouds By: Krickkett

Lenticular Clouds

These are Lenticular clouds....they are stationary lens-shaped clouds that form at high altitudes, normally aligned at right-angles to the wind direction. Stable moist air flows over a mountain or a range of mountains, a series of large-scale standing waves form on the downwind side. I was told by a private pilot on the beach that day, that they have been known to fly their planes well over 200 miles in winds like this without their engines. He was excited...lol
