well let see you guy sing this song a year or two from now then most things a will be broadcast at the high rates. most broadcasters can not send you a true 1080hdtv @120hz at this time. You take a HDTV 1080 120hz hooked to a bluerayDVD player, playing a DVD that has been burned in 1080 @120hz It will show you what you are missing. but then again, most people can’t see what they are missing on a daliy basis to begain with in the first place. Not in a mean way, just not many people look at the fine details when they are there anyway.

It just about looks that way.  More prominent characters’ shadows fade over other people/things though.  It just doesn’t look right and it doesn’t do it to anything that’s not plugged in by way of the cable input.

Tank_Girl20,
“red and green shadows around everything”. Sounds like 3D. Do you have a pair of 3D glasses? They might be just what you need.

Question for DEW.  I have the exact same tv you have (the LCD).  Pretty much anything I have plugged in through the AV inputs plays beautifully.  But when I watch anything through my cable input (VCR, Dish Network Satalite), I have red and green shadows around everything.  Have you ever had that problem or do you think it might be something wrong with the tv?  Just asking you because you have the same tv.

After reading my post, I realized it sounded kind of “rude”. I am sorry if I sounded that way, it was not my intention. Bottom line is to buy what looks good to YOU and what YOU can afford. Also, I have connected my PC to my plasma and it runs just fine in anyy resolution up to the max 1920X1080 using the HDMI input but not the RGB PC input. Your graphics card needs to be tweaked and ATI (which is what I have) has a great utility for this on their website. On a side note, Pioneer DOES indeed have the absolute best HD televisions made…and the price reflects that. I saw some incredible Pioneer screens at CES in Las Vegas…but these are not for the average consumer. While I am off the subject a little, if anyone is in the market for a new camcorder, consider buying a Hi-Def model. You will not be disapointed! These new hi-Def units are far superior to ANYTHING previously available. But be ready to invest in storage because hi-Def eats up the storage space! Hahahaha!

Sorry for taking so long to post, Comcast cut my hardline during a botched service call…no service for four days! Anyway, to answer your question, Opinionwriter, it is an LG 42” plasma running 1080i. It was purchased overseas, but works just fine here. My HD camcorder shoots in 1080i and 1080p…and honestly, you CANNOT tell the difference when played back via HDMI. I prefer the vibrant colors and deep saturation of dark to light transitions displayed by a plasma. Thats not to say that LCD doesn’t have it’s advantages, and yes, LCD’s do last much longer. Either way, I think it is a matter of personal preference. When it comes down to 1080i and 1080p, you are really splitting hairs. Crazy thing is that standard broadcast is refreshed at 24fps! So, your new super duper 1080p flatscreen that boasts 60fps…well, you are only watching 24fps. (the public eats the bait, hook, line and sinker)Not sure if that will change after Feb. 19th as I have not researched it.

Ah, gotcha Dew. It really can be a gamble with connecting a PC to an HDTV.  For some reason there can be huge differences with the way TV’s process signals from a graphics card.  Lots of sets often perform poorly even though they sport a VGA connection which is meant for connecting to a PC. Go figure.

Yeah Carl, a few years ago many plasmas did have 30,000 hours or less life expectancy which isn’t that great. In the last couple of years they have greatly improved. If I were looking at a 32” set I would probably pick LCD as well. The sharpness seems better to me at that screen size.

The Plasmas seem to have brighter colors to me but I had to go for longevity and the difference didn’t appear to be that great for me on normal TV viewing.I checked the life expectancies of the screens, the quality of most of the electronics seemed about the same, and the LCD at that time had a longer life expectancy,SOO I let my poor bank account do the talking.Three years into a 32” flat panel LCD and still doing good so far and it consumes about a third of the power of my old TV set.

Correction, it was a 42 inch Plasma I tried gaming on. Paid about $1299CDN for it. I ended up getting a 32’ LCD for around $600CDN, and am well satisfied with it.

This is what I ended up keeping LCD

I tried a Plasma with both my PC and my XBOX, for the XBOX it was fair when set to 720p. On my PC the Plasma had a of lag to it on all settings unless I set my graphics cards back. Maybe acceptable to some, but not for me. I spent 1500$ on 2 PCI graphics cards, I wanna be able to run it at all full settings. This was all on a 32 inch screen. As I stated, on a 52inch or better, it may be worth it, depending on your point of view. As Razor also stated, it’s all junk, unless properly fed. If you gonna bust out 3k for a TV, you not gonna be satisfied unless you fork out 500$ for a good Blu-Ray Player, and get a HD Cable or Satellite Box.
