As the time draws near for the switch to digital TV, some people are still confused about how to hook up a converter box.
Ann Pascarella of Bay Minette said she's been trying to hook up the box to her TV and VCR ever since she bought it two months ago.
She said she looked at the "quick start" instructions, but said the instructions don't match what's on her TV.
Pascarella said she can't afford cable or satellite TV, and hasn't been able to find anyone who knows how to hook up the box.
She said, "This is my only form of entertainment and it is where I get my news, where I get the community services. If it doesn't work, I'll just watch my movies all the time and not know what's going on downtown or at the courthouse."
However, the people at Radio Shack told News Five they would be glad to show anyone who comes in their store how to hook up a converter box.
Christie Avritt with Radio Shack gave a demonstration.
She said, "Your antenna actually goes in where it says 'Antenna In.' To the television, you go 'TV Out,' so this cord is hooked to my television. My antenna will hook in right beside it. As soon as that is done, we have the direct TV, our DTV box, working on the television."
The people at Best Buy also told News Five they'll help people who come in their stores with hooking up a converter box.

I know I’m not confused about hooking up a converter box - that’s because I don’t own such a thing. Antenna in, antenna out doesn’t live in my tv-less world. I have been unhooked for 8 months, ever since I told ComCast our affair was going to have to come to an end, that too many people suspected, when the vans pulled up to the curb to romp the neighborhood in search of the elusive main box. Usually it wasn’t too hard to find, just follow the orange cable strewn across backyards and over privacy fences. Hard times hit and I had to let go of the two or three channels I watched and change my online surfing method to something cheaper. The monthly bill was inching up there close to the power bill! I’m not completely TV-less though, I can watch TV on the Internet - no extra charge, no antenna, no digital converter box. But I rarely do. Who needs it with the Internet?
