WASHINGTON (AP) - The House has defeated a bill to postpone the
upcoming transition from analog to digital television broadcasting
by four months to June 12.
House Republicans succeeded in scuttling a bill to delay the
transition, which is scheduled for Feb. 17, less than two days
after the Senate unanimously passed the plan.
The defeat is a setback for the Obama administration and
Democrats on Capitol Hill, who fear too many Americans are not
ready for the switchover.
The Nielsen Co. estimates more than 6.5 million U.S. households
that rely on analog television sets to pick up over-the-air
broadcast signals could see their TV sets go dark next month if the
transition is not postponed.

DEW26M,I do agree with you 100% about what you said.Thats the thing I dont like about it too is that the US is being forced to do it!!!

if they’d slack up on rent a rims, they’d be able to afford the box….....come on!

While I agree there should be no delay, as i previously stated 6.5 million represents 2.1393919861140955 PERCENT of the population. Why should those who have spent thousands of dollars preparing for the change have to suffer for those too lazy to get a coupon and pay 10$ for a converter. The one thing I do think that sucks, is that we are forced into the DTV transition, but networks are not forced to use a HDTV signal. That means even though you paid $4K on a Plasma, your local broadcast channel can still send you a picture that is 480i (interlaced, 640pixels x 480lines). Basically you will be getting the same exact quality picture as you are/were receiving on your old CRT Television or PC Monitor set.

Go Republicans!!!!!!!!!!!  The people who won’t them too bad they have had just as much time as the rest of us.  Coupon $40.00 go to walmart or target and get one for $10.00 after rebate… The people who don’t have one just the Govt. to hand them one.

OH I am sure the foodstamp line wont hand them out!!! That is something every American will have to buy.Either full price or if you have a coupon and use it.

They are going to need as much time as it takes for someone to give them one.  That’s the whole problem. Until the foodstamp line hands them out, I guess they won’t get one.

How many more “Years” notice do they need to get a converter box. I requested coupons in August and didn’t receive them until December after I purchased one at full price. Luckily, I hadn’t bought a second one yet. Cave dwellers saw this coming.

“broadcast signals could see their TV sets go dark”.  This is what they wanted anyway wasn’t it? For the world to go “dark”

I hope this is the last we hear of this and the switch goes on February 17th.

Everyone was hollering “change” and then they don’t want it. smile
