Google Launches People Tracker

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - There's a new people tracker out there.
A software program being released by Google today will let just
about anybody with a cell phone or other wireless device find out
instantly where they are. Other people can find out where they are
too -- say, parents who want to keep tabs on junior.
The program is an upgrade to Google's mobile maps. It's being
marketed as a way to know exactly where you are and share your
whereabouts with family and friends. Google's product manager says
it "adds a social flavor" to Google maps and makes them "more
fun."
In a concession to snooping concerns, it's easy for the user to
switch off the tracking device. It's also possible to set it up so
it will identify only the city where you are, not the exact
location.
And Google promises it won't be retaining information on users'
movements.

If anyone is interested in the application, it’s actually called “Google Latitude” and the homepage is located here: http://www.google.com/latitude/intro.html The article is pretty bleak about the actual application.

I can see where the application could come in handy for purposes beyond that of stalking. For instance when a loved one goes fishing,hunting,hiking,bikeriding,clubbing,camping.
It would be really hard to use it without the holder of the phone knowing it, so it’s not really that great for tracking someone without their knowledge(if that is your intention).

If you wanted a program that is good to track a child/teen/spouse with their cellphone, I’d recommend getting an application supplied by the Phone Company which is incorporated into your plan(some offer it free).

Sweet! This will make it SUPER easy for the stalker ex boyfriends or girlfriends to locate someone.

I trust Google about as much as I’d trust any member of the TALIBAN !!!! Pretty sweet application though.
