NEW YORK (AP) - A major about-face for Facebook. The online social network site has decided to move away from a change in its user policies. The new policy indicated that Facebook could continue to have say-so over the content posted by its users, even after they no longer were part of the online community.

The change in its terms of use caused a series of online protests. Now Facebook says it will hold off on any changes while it tries to work through the legal questions over who really owns the photos, images and writings that end up posted on the site. In the meantime, Facebook is telling its users, in plain English, that it "doesn't claim rights to any of your photos or other content."

And, it says, it never meant to imply otherwise, even in the updated terms of service posted a couple of weeks ago.
