25-thousand people lost phone and internet service in Baldwin County Tuesday. Equipment failure at the Foley-based CenturyTel Communications is to blame. Phone lines were down for nearly two hours...including emergency phone service. Emergency dispatchers in several Baldwin County towns could not answer 911 calls or dial out."It's very frustrating when you've got a problem and you know it's not our fault," says Christine Heger with Baldwin County 911. "The problem wasn't on our end, we were ready to take calls but we weren't getting them from CenturyTel."
A spokesman for CenturyTel based in Louisiana tells News 5 the equipment has been restored and repaired.
"I am going to meet with CenturyTel officials and try and figure out what exactly happened," says Heger. "When people call 911, they should be able to get somebody on the other line. We'll offer any assistance we possibly can."
