(AP / CBS) - A poll posted on the social networking site Facebook asking if President Obama should be assassinated has prompted a Secret Service investigation.

The Huffington Post has a screen shot of the poll. It asks, "should obama be killed?" The possible answers are "yes," "maybe," "if he cuts my health care" and "no."

"We are aware of it and we will take the appropriate investigative steps," Secret Service Darrin Blackford told the Associated Press. "We take of these things seriously."

At least 730 people took the user-generated poll before it was removed by Facebook upon officials learning of its existence. Results of the survey were not available because the application was disabled. The company said the person who created the poll has been suspended from using the site.

"The third-party application that enabled an individual user to create the offensive poll was brought to our attention this morning," said Barry Schnitt, Director of Policy Communications for Facebook. "The application was immediately suspended while the inappropriate content could be removed by the developer and until such time as the developer institutes better procedures to monitor their user-generated content."

"We're working with the US Secret Service but they'll need to provide any details of their investigation," he added.

Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan confirmed to CBS News that the Secret Service and Facebook are working together on the issue.

The Huffington Post notes that another user quickly created a poll asking "Should the creator of 'should Obama be killed' be arrested?"

I saw the poll on face book before it made a stink. I did not take it serious or waste my time on it, like most of the things on face book, they are just silly to start with and I don’t feed into or do the silly vampire, maafiia wars, fish bowl, farm, send a gift, take a poll BS. All that is just not for real to start with

It was just a bad joke that crossed the line. I didn’t see it as real and it really did not need to be seen at all, even as a joke. You don’t joke about that. You might not like the man but the office is not to be disrespected. Even if the man in the office is doing a good job of it himself.

The poll was completely inappropriate regardless of the person or persons authoring it or their intentions. We are responsible for yelling fire in a crowded theater. Something may or may not be legal, but that does not make it ethical.

Who cares what publication quotes the CBO?  What is your point?  Do you know what the CBO is and do you know its head was appointed by Democrats?

You mean unlike the Examiner?

Those are both dot GOV sites pushing an agenda.  The CBO has refuted many of those claims, which makes the whole concept that much more troubling.

Do you have any idea how much your insurance plans will be taxed?  Under Baucus “Cadillac Plans” will be hit with a 35% tax.  A Cadillac plan in their opinion is anything with a value above $8,000 per year.  As noted in your Alabama link, the average family pays $12,230 in premiums.  So, virtually everyone in Alabama will be looking at an immediate 35% hike in taxes.

Youre completely correct bobcat. It is also a reminder that this set of postings is about the poll and not healthcare. I will post those thoughts in the appropriate venue.
THank you

Here is the full text to the Baucus bill. Its a tough read (like all proposed legislation). It will take awhile to get through it all. Some of it will piss off everyone and all parts will piss off some. Completely understandable.
Read the entire thing before coming to any conclusions. Please remember its a compromise.

They could have rephrased this with “not re-elected” and it would have given a more accurate feeling of the disapproval by those being polled.
The suggestion of anyone being harmed is absolutely terrible and this was clearly a poor choice of words.

Personally, Im not in favor of the Baucus bill. I happen to agree with a public option but not single payer. The insurance companies have no competition. The public option is just that; a public option. If people disagree, thats fine, but please suggest an alternative that addresses insurance companies being allowed to end coverage if someone gets too sick (they do that on a regular basis) or prevent someone from getting coverage because of a preexsiting condition, or waiting for someone miles away to make a decision while your family member is dying and needs care now.
As much as I do not want to pay more taxes I am willing to do with less so someone else has at least the minimum care. I have VA coverage and private health insurance. Im one of the very lucky ones. Not everyone is so fortunate.
