Now, now, play nice abtman,
How did even become about YOU owning a cell phone?
This is just a general “if the shoe fits” comment. No offense meant by it. Just my opinion.  wink

Sir I don’t own a cell phone. You can play all you like!

atbman, I am going to play the devils advocate here.

I agree with you that there would be fewer wrecks, but I’m not so sure that you would feel the same way about cell phones if YOU were the one trapped IN the car.

Well if you are talking about me, I wasn’t crying or whining about anything. I tried to call and check on my son and the land line was down so I tried to use my cell. I did get worried when neither would work and left work to go check on him. When you lose both your land line and cell phone it is a little stressful. Not “lost” as you put it!

I feel bad about the fellow having siezures on the beach, but come on folks whining and crying cuz your cell phone don’t work. I just don’t know how us older folks made it without all the new technologies around today. I would love if all the cell phones quit working for a couple of days. Car accidents would go down and I wouldn’t have to listen to some idiot on the phone crying about something! Sound old and bitter don’t I? I’m not. Just my humble opinion. These folks actually sound lost without somebody on the phone telling them what to do!!

The phones are working again in Gulf Shores.

Around 11:20am a friend of mine called and said call 911 because no one has cell phone signals & there is a man having a seizure on the beach.
After the initial call, I called frantically the Orange Beach PD, Gulf Shores PD,Orange Beach Fire and then Gulf Shores Fire, they were all giving me fast busy signals!

According to people I knew at the scene it took at least 30-45 minutes to finally get help to him.
He finally received help and I assume he is on his way to the ER, I tried for 20 minutes to reach an EMERGENCY number at all 4 of those offices!
The funniest thing is this, when I called Orange Beach PD I got a recording saying “if this is an emergency hang up and call 911”....

Here is my question: Who do we call when 911 is not available such as today?

It was pretty scary going through that today.
What if it wouldn’t have been just a man having a seizure, but an explosion or terrorist attack?

I mean I know that is far fetched here in Orange Beach but…????

I finally got my office phone back on and called my cell provider and apparently all towers within a 25 mile radius are down. They are working on it but it may be this afternoon before it’s fixed. Gulftel is also working on it but that may take forever too. This was about the strangest thing I have been thru in a while.
