Actually, I very much believe that it’s costing us more than the City of Mobile is spending in the police jurisdiction right now!  Mobile has been unwilling to provide PROOF that they are spending these P.J. tax dollars IN the P.J.  And, by law, that is where they are supposed to be spending those dollars.

I do have to say on behalf of WKRG, they have been pretty good in reporting on the annexation issues in comparison to other news channels.  So for that I have to commend WKRG.
Now, as for as the Press-Register goes, it’s a joke!  The Press-Register even had an editorial SUPPORTING annexation and saying that the VOTERS would get to decide the annexation election.  Ha Ha!!  Except for the fact that 3/4 or more of the voters have the gerrymandered lines drawn to exclude them from being able to vote.

It appears that this survey was only done with people living in the city of Mobile already.  These people are biased and will receive no benefit from the annexation.  The people directly affected by the annexation (the families living in the surrounding unincorporated communities) were purposely excluded from the survey.  Maybe WKRG didn’t consider that they might like to participate??  Or could it be that WKRG supports the annexation?  No one will ever know.  The few benefits will cost the affected families far more in taxes than the city will ever spend on them.

I think there is some stipulation about tracts of land over 30-40 acres with one owner.  That makes me wonder about that little island they have created between Halls Mill and Demotropilis.  According to Mobile County Property Tax records, that land and most of the land around it is owned by the guy that owns Mobile Lumber.
. Was it done to get around that acreage requirement, or was it something the owner insisted upon.  It would be interesting to know the answers to that one.

BamaBob—wow, Mobile is doing the same thing down there in Tillman’s Corner/Theodore that they are trying to pull off in Semmes.  This should be illegal.

With “incorporation”, you have to have the signatures of 4 registered voters living on a 1/4 x 1/4 section (40 acres)to bring it to a vote.

Why is it that with annexation, NO ONE has to be living on the property AND the owner of the property has no voice!

This should be illegal!

This is the way I see the annexation attempt in the southwest part of the county.  I’ve compared the annexation lines on this map with aerial photos of the area and I think my assumption is basically correct.

What do you make of that one long leg that juts to the north at what looks like Crowell Rd.?  What is at the end of that road that Sam wants?

Take a look at this—> http://savesemmes.powweb.com/images/DiagramMap.gif

This will give you a better idea of just what the Moffett Road annexation area is like.  You’ll see that just a few streets in one subdivision will be making the decision for a huge area where no one lives (the commerical/retail corridor along Moffett Road and the WalMart at the corner of Schillinger/Moffett).  Then the rest of the area to the east of this subdivision is owned primarily by two families and is just undeveloped and no one really lives there (no voters).  So the area that will be voting is making up less that 50% of the entire area that Mobile is trying to annex!  This should be illegal!

I remember when they tried to annex those of us when the Home Port was here.  Well we are left out because we said “NO!“.  They tried to get us again by puttting us with Cypress Shores who said yes and we fought with a lawsuit and won.

hey didn’t this channel say police are going into other areas where the cities actually appreciate them. so my question is who is going to patrol out there, i mean the next academy only has 8 potential officers in it for the city, but with so many leaving who’s going to do the work????

My mistake, the road was Oaktree, not Oak Hill. These are businesses only on this road.
