Mayor Takes Action Against Tall Grass

Mobile, AL - The City of Mobile is looking at a new way to combat tall grass.  It’s around ditches and some of the most travelled roadways in the city.  They’re going to outsource that lawn mowing work.  The mayor announcing today they are looking at a plan to outsource mowing 18 major thoroughfares in the Mobile area.  The mayor says this is a cost effective plan.   He says it will free up city workers to do other work around Mobile while the outsourcing will only tackle a problem they have four months out of the year.

“It does not make economic sense to staff up for a problem that is only here for 4 months of the year just does not make common sense to do that,” said Mayor Sandy Stimpson.  No word yet on how much this will cost.  There should be a proposal in front of the city council for a vote in a few weeks.    Currently these roads only get the right-of-ways cut once every three weeks.  The mayor says outsourcing would push that up to a weekly schedule.
