Preparing For Fireworks Show

Posted: Updated:
Mobile, AL - Fireworks shows take a lot of work and electronics to go off without a hitch.

“I've been here since 2001-except last year, doing the show and it's always a challenge but it's always a gorgeous show,” says Pat White with Pyrotecnico.  The Pyrotecnico crew wires together three thousand pounds of explosives on a barge outside of the mobile convention center.  There's blast housing for the operator to stand behind as the show gets underway.  They always try to make a fun and patriotic display.

“We'll have a good bit of red white and blue out there for the gulf war vets and any other veterans that are out there to say thank-you,” says White.  While the explosives are prepared at the Convention Center, less dangerous work is done at Battleship Park.  Set up was underway at Battleship Park for the Mobile Pops concert.

“Have to get all the percussion equipment, run all the electrical for the band members so they can see their music,” says Pops Executive Director John Reamer.  Families have been flocking to Battleship Park all day.  Most are there for sightseeing.

“We're staying at Gulf Shores for the holiday weekend, going to hang out here, Waterville and do some shopping,” says Larry Wilson from Enterprise, Alabama.  Other families have their cars jam packed with food and chairs as they kill time before the big show.

“Pretty stocked we have everything from our clothes to the food to food for the kids to entertainment for the kids so we're pretty well ready to go,” says Suzy Pitts from Houston, Texas.
