Caught on tape: SC policemen save driver from burning car after head-on crash

Posted: Updated:
TRAVELERS REST, SC - Travelers Rest officers are being hailed as heroes after pulling a driver from a burning car after a crash.

Around 5 a.m. on Sunday, an officer came across a head-on crash between two cars on Highway 25 near Furman University.

The driver of a car had driven into the wrong lane of travel and struck another vehicle, according to Travelers Rest Police.

The officer requested fire and EMS and began to check on the victims.

One of the victims was unresponsive and pinned in a car, the other driver was also pinned in their vehicle due to injuries.

A fire broke out in one of the cars and the officers attempted to put out the flames while fire crews were in route.

The fire grew even larger, so the officers pulled the victim out of the vehicle.

Fire crews then arrived on scene and helped the officers pull the other victim out of the other vehicle.

A Med-Trans helicopter airlifted one driver and the other was transported by EMS.

"I'm as proud as can be of them," says Police Chief Lance Crowe. "It's huge. They clearly put themselves in danger without a moment's hesitation. Used what tools they had available, what training they had, just good common sense and the desire to help. I'm as proud as I could be of them."

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash due to the location of the incident.
