Parents & Teachers Want Principal Removed

Parents & Teachers Want Principal Removed

Posted: Updated:
Parents packed the school gymnasium at J.E. Turner Elementary School Monday night. They were looking for answers over an ongoing dispute between teachers and the school principal.

Superintendent Martha Peek called the meeting and spoke to concerned parents.

Last week more than 20 teachers were given transfer notices after a number of them complained about new school principal Missy Nolen.

Many of the teachers say they felt bullied and uncomfortable working at the school.

“Every night I was going home with chest pains seeing what my colleagues were going through; Blood pressure problems, anxiety issues. They have been bullied,” said Lauren Brannon who left the school in December.

Peek wanted to ease concerns from parents, but didn't say anything about action going forward.

“I think that is all in perspective it depends on the group you talk with and certainly we look at the whole picture am I want a cohesive team here for 2014-15,” said Peek.

Most of the teachers say they would like to return to Turner if allowed back, but won't if Nolen is still there.

Nolen was not present at the meeting.
