Baby Corpse Found in Thomasville

Posted: Updated:
CLARKE COUNTY, Alabama - It's at a home on MacMillan Drive in Thomasville where authorities recovered a baby's body that had been dead for 7 years.

The mother of the infant, Chastity Ballinger, is accused of stuffing the baby in a bag and hiding it in a storage container.

Missy Cartwright says gruesome details are hard to believe.

"I was completely shocked. Chastity was a very kind person and never seemed like she would be the kind of person to do anything like that," said Cartwright.

The home is said to belong to the father of Ballinger's ex-husband.

"She was able to hold up a family. She was married. She had children and I mean they were alive and living and had lived healthy normal relationships. I had two younger sister's and she would babysit them when they got off the bus and they would all go to her house to hang out with her daughter," said Cartwright.

News of the crime has traveled through the small city.

"The babies don't ask to be born. We bring them into the world. I think we should think before we bring them into the world. It's sad. That just lets you know the devil is busy all the time even in Thomasville," said Rosa Lockett.

Ballinger faces a charge of capitol murder in Wilcox County, and a charge of corpse abuse in Clarke County.
