Where Are All the Strawberries?

Where Are All the Strawberries?

Posted: Updated:
BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. -

Local farmers are struggling to produce a good strawberry crop this year. After a harsh winter the plants died, and then they were flushed out from all the rain we've has been getting.

Farmers markets in Baldwin County do get some berries from local growers, but since the deliveries are sparse, a lot of the strawberries come over from Florida or Mississippi. But, if you're looking for a good, juicy strawberry, the ones from across the state line are on par with those grown in Baldwin county.

"Oh yeah, these are on par. They are nice and juicy. Because they come from Lucedale, they don't have to be picked off the vine when they are green, so they taste great," says owner of Burris Farm Market, Rick Stewart.

Another crop that could be affected due to the weather is the peach crop. But, we won't know for sure until they are in full season which will be sometime in May.
