Woman Steals Money From Estate Sale

Woman Steals Money From Estate Sale

Posted: Updated:
It was supposed to be a way to make some quick cash, but crooks decided to make some easy money of their own Friday afternoon at a home on Grant Street.

"They pretended like they would like to purchase a cabinet. They stood by the door for close to an hour saying that they were waiting on their truck to get there so they could load the cabinet," said Jallah Sterm.

According to witnesses, the two were never interested in purchasing anything. They had their eyes set on something else.

A woman pretending to be a customer asked the lady at the front table for a hug and that's when things started to unfold.

"As the woman bent down to give Mrs. Carroll a hug she jerked an envelope up that had $2500 worth of cash and checks. $100 bills and people's personal checks and stole it," she says.

The thief may have been brave, but she wasn't as sly as she thought.

"As soon as Mrs. Carroll looked back down she noticed the envelope was gone and she says hey to the lady and the lady had gotten right outside the door by that point and she started running. Mrs. Carroll screamed after her and she took off like a bolt," she explains.

Nearby neighbors were were working in their yard saw the thief running through properties trying to get away. They were able to get a picture of her car and a partial tag number.

"I can't believe that anyone would do something so wrong there was absolutely no sense in it. We're the type of people who would help anyone, would give anybody a deal, would try to help out," she says.

They were last seen driving away in a silver car. If you have any information please call Mobile Police.
