Milestone for Mobile Airbus Assembly Line

Milestone for Mobile Airbus Assembly Line

Posted: Updated:
Airbus celebrated a milestone at the construction site for a final assembly line in Mobile.

The company joined city and county leaders in a topping-out ceremony.  The event marks the point in construction between ground breaking and ribbon cutting.  In this case, it marked the erection of the steel structure that is the hangar for the FAL.

Many times an evergreen tree is planted for such an occasion, but this time, Covenant Steel constructed a steel tree, that will also be used in other similar ceremonies.

The head of the Final Assembly Line USA, Dr. Ulrich Weber, said the project is on track, with plans for a completed A320 aircraft to roll off of the Mobile assembly line in early 2016.

Airbus said it will increase production of the A320 family by 2016, to 46 planes per month--Mobile's FAL will certainly play a role in that plan.

The company currently has a backlog of order for almost 5500 jets.
