MCPSS Opposes Anti-Common Core Bill

MCPSS Opposes Anti-Common Core Bill

Posted: Updated:
MOBILE, Alabama -

A state bill that would give school districts a chance to opt out of the Common Core Education Standards is being opposed by Mobile County School officials.

The Mobile County School Board unanimously passed a resolution opposing Senate Bill 443.

The state’s Common Core, called Alabama’s College and Career Ready Standards was adopted in 2010.

Mobile County Superintendent Martha Peek says the standards are a step forward and passing restrictions sends a confusing message.

Opponents of Common Core say it presents a nationwide one size fits all option that isn't specifically tailored to students in Alabama.
