Mobile Police Make 39 Narcotics Arrests

Posted: Updated:

Juniper Street is your typical quiet residential street. But yesterday around 5:30, it was teeming with Mobile Police Department's Narcotics and Vice Unit, who issued a warrant for this house.

"As a result of the search warrant, 39 individuals were arrested for loitering for the purpose of drug activity," says Officer Terrence Perkins with the Mobile Police Department.

And when you think of drug arrests, you don't normally think of middle-aged men, but that's exactly who police arrested. 63-year-old Reuben Bolton, 62-year-old Johnnie Clemmons, 49-year-old John Webb, and 45-year-old Dean Williams are described by police as "key players" of this operation.

"We took a lot of narcotics off the street. Xanax, Hydrocodone, and Marijuana," adds Perkins.

A hot spot that was on radar, Perkins says they were getting complaints from neighbors about the high volume of traffic to such a small street. One man who was arrested wouldn't go on camera, but told us they were just a bunch of old men playing dominoes and keeping to themselves and police had no right to treat them they way they did. Charges also included possession and distribution of various drugs. Three of the four men arrested had an extensive drug history, reaching back into the 1980's. Officers agree, this is an obscure situation.

"Definitely given the ages, it is not what we typically see, but we always are trying to sharpen up our investigation skills so we definitely look for anything that sticks out."

The men were also charged with distributing illegal prescription pills, which officers say is common among older offenders.
