Meet the Man Behind Mobile Mask Magazine

Meet the Man Behind Mobile Mask Magazine

Posted: Updated:
Did you know there's a new magazine that is just devoted just to Mardi Gras in Mobile? This is the second year for the publication. It's called Mobile Mask. It is the brainchild of Steve Joynt, who was an assistant city editor at the Mobile Register Newspaper for over ten years. Joynt left the Register and started the website, www.mobilemask.com. He put out the first edition of Mobile Mask last year, and the second one this year. He says, "My goal when I am doing the stories is, that whether you are brand new to Mardi Gras or you've lived here, you will read something that says, 'Hmm, I didn't know that.'"

Joynt says even if you have grown up on the Gulf Coast, there's a lot you probably don't know about Mobile Mardi Gras. In this year's magazine, you will find a profile of the Order of Polka Dots, a feature on the man who lives in Joe Cain's former home, and a profile of the Olympia Brass Band. Not to mention, there is plenty of trivia, a parade schedule, and great photographs of past celebrations. Joynt says he works on the magazine all year long. "This is what I was born to do. I have been training for this all my life. I just didn't know it until a couple of years ago."

Joynt says the website, www.mobilemask.com, has many extras that you won't see in the magazine. After each parade, he includes photographs of riders and video of every float. Many Mardi Gras organizations enjoy being able to watch their parade in its entirety.

For a list of where you can get a copy of Mobile Mask magazine, visit www.mobilemask.com or find Mobile Mask on Facebook.
