Connected Nation is issuing the following statement from President and COO Tom Ferree regarding todays announcement by President Obama that the Federal Communications Commission will invest $2 billion during the next two years on high-speed Internet in schools and libraries, and that $750 million in additional commitments from the private sector have been secured for the effort. The efforts are part of the Presidents ConnectED initiative:
Were extremely pleased that President Obamas education technology initiative announced today will include $200 million in commitments for off-campus broadband connectivity. Connected Nation has championed the importance of off-campus access to learning tools before the FCC, and we are extremely pleased to see the President make it a priority in his ConnectED initiative. Learning in the twenty-first century need not stop at the classroom door. As technology allows for more individualized and engaging learning experiences via 1:1 devices, it is absolutely essential that all of our nations students have access to web-based content and apps no matter where they are, especially for the 15 million students who do not have broadband access at home.
Connected Nation is a leader in the education-technology field with its Edified program; an education initiative that seeks to increase the deployment of the latest mobile technology, robust wireless connectivity, education apps, and twenty-first century teaching practice in Americas K-12 schools, colleges, and universities. Edified builds partnerships with technology companies, education research organizations, broadband providers, and distinguished educators who desire to work collaboratively to promote technology solutions that have great potential to revolutionize learning and education outcomes.
