Crime in unincorporated Durham Co. lowest in 5 years

DURHAM, N.C. -

Crime in unincorporated Durham County reached its lowest levels in five years in 2013, according to year-end crime statistics released by the Durham County Sheriff's Office.

Unincorporated Durham County saw 816 total reported crimes in 2013, 215 less than the 1,031 incidents in 2012.

The types of crime included in the report released by the sheriff's office include criminal homicide, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft and arson.

One criminal homicide was reported in 2013, as well as one forcible rape and 30 aggravated assaults, all down from 2012.

Unincorporated Durham County refers to the areas in the county that are not within town or city limits.
