Flu Outbreak

Flu Outbreak

Posted: Updated:
FOLEY, Alabama -

Local doctors are treating hundreds of patients complaining of flu-like symptoms this week.

Symptoms include, headache, nausea, fever, chills and fatigue. The flu can keep you at home and in bed for days and force you to miss work. Severe cases can require hospitalization.

The flu can also be deadly. Multiple deaths have been reported in Texas, Mississippi and Alabama this month, including two possible flu-related deaths in Mobile County.

Doctors we talked to say getting a flu shot is the best way to protect you and your family from catching the potentially deadly virus, including the H1N1 strain, also known as swine flu.

Although the flu vaccine is generally only 55 to 65 percent effective, this year's "VE" or vaccine effectiveness, is offering more protection than in previous years.
