22 Applicants Want the Title of Jackson County Sheriff

There are 22 qualified applicants ready to take over the recently vacated office for Jackson County Sheriff. The job became available after Former Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd resigned last week as part of his plea deal. Byrd pled guilty to intimidating a witness in exchange for the state dropping the other 30 counts ranging from embezzlement, fraud and hindering a witness. The recommended state sentence is a year and a half of home confinement. That will run concurrently with the six months home confinement from his federal sentence. 

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors expect to appoint of the candidates by its January 6th meeting.
