Spanish Fort, Alabama -

A Chickasaw man was charged with eluding, robbery and receiving stolen property Tuesday after police say he tried to rob a Spanish Fort gas station clerk then led police on high speed chase across the Bayway.

Investigators say Charles Curry used a stolen Ford Escort as a getaway car, but the car died and fell apart during the 20 mile chase, which topped 90mph at one point.

Police say Curry confessed to the attempted hold-up at the Summit Shell in Spanish Fort and to four other armed robberies in Mobile County.

Curry told detectives he was on a three-day crack cocaine binge.
