Loxley Homeowners Association Kills Geese

LOXLEY, Alabama -

The Lakeland Homeowners Association in Loxley is killing geese at subdivision pond. The HOA considers the geese nuisance birds.

The Lakeland HOA would not talk to us on camera but a board member did confirm the association has eliminated at least four geese.

The board member tells News 5 the geese are potential health hazards, can carry diseases and have caused more than three-thousand dollars in property damage.

One homeowner called police when she heard gunshots Sunday.

The Loxley Police Dept. contacted the Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries and both agencies determined killing domestic geese is not a crime.

"These are domesticated animals," says Lt. Doug Phillips with the Loxley Police Dept. "They're contained within a certain area and they were well within their rights to eliminate them. These animals carry diseases in their feces, they cause property damage and when they received complaints, they needed to take action."
